Description: Cursillo is intended to be an instrument of renewal; it provides a form of perseverance in Christian life. Cursillo is a method of Christianizing one’s environment and developing one’s spirituality. It provides a means for continuing Christian growth which is begun with our Baptism.
Coming this Fall: Weekend 132 - Men's October 13-16, 2011
Weekend 133 - Women's October 27-30, 2011
Cursillo (ker-see-o) is a three day learning, sharing, inspirational experience of living in aHistoryChristian Community. In Spanish, the full title, "Cursillos de Cristiandad" translates to "short course in Christianity." A Cursillo weekend enables you, through inspiring talks, daily chapel, music, and prayer, to learn what Christian friendship is all about. While Cursillo is a lay-led movement, it operates only with clergy oversight. In fact, in order for a church to have a Cursillo community, their Pastor must have participated in a Cursillo weekend.
Catholic priests and laymen in Majorca, Spain, determined that the church needed renewal and formulated this “method” or “short course” to bring the fundamental teachings of Jesus to people. The first Cursillo in Arizona was in Phoenix in 1959 and the first Lutheran Cursillo was in Phoenix in March of 1982. Since then, there have been over 120 Lutheran Cursillo weekends in the Phoenix area! Cursillo weekends are currently held at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mesa.Purpose
Other related weekends are "Tirosh" for students age 15 to 20, a 2-day "My Father’s House" for students age 12 to 15, and "Chayah" for incarcerated youth at Adobe Mountain and Black Canyon schools. Check the website at http://www.lutherancursillo.org for further information on all of these programs.
